Write to your states Excise Department and find out what your responsibilities are. I am almost certain that whatever state you are in you should at least have a state business license. Chances are your city will want you to have a local one too.

First of all you don't send your 1099's in. Second of all, the states and the feds are not crosschecking incomes! And C) for out of state work, you are not responsible for that states local taxes (this is a broad statement and there are instances where this is not true, but for most practical purposes it is).

So I'd say, don't concern yourself with out of state local taxes. Just your own state taxes and federal taxes.

I don't understand who I am suppose to pay-- how can I be responsible for CA taxes? I have to have a CA sellers permit too? How are you suppose to know about this? Shouldn't the company you be working for tell you???

RELAX! You don't owe a nickel to anyone in CA.... that's 'cause you don't live in California... you're only liable for taxes in the state, county and city in which you live.... along with Federal tax and Social Security and all the rest.
